James R. Painter

 

Mr. Painter is a business executive who has held leadership positions in global corporations in industries ranging from transportation to retail services.   He has expertise in finance, acquisitions, and strategic planning.

 

Most recently, while serving as a member of the Board of Directors, and chairman of the Audit Committee of Paxar Corporation, a NYSE retail services company operating in 40 countries, he stepped in to lead and rebuild the company’s financial function on an interim basis. (Paxar became a division of Avery Dennison in 2007).  He previously served as chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Modern Woman, Inc., a national retailer, and executive vice president and member of the Board of Directors of American Retail Group, Inc., which, through its subsidiaries, operated more than 1,000 stores throughout the United States.

 

Mr. Painter began his career with Trans World Airlines and served in senior positions with Transworld Corporation and TW Services.

 

Mr. Painter has served as an adjunct professor of Economics/Finance at Marist College, and on the board of Abbott House, a child welfare organization.  He was chairman of the Board of Directors of Phelps Memorial Hospital and served as a member of the Committee on New American Realities for the National Policy Association in Washington, D.C.

 

An Army veteran of Vietnam, Mr. Painter received an MBA from Columbia University and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan.
