DENISE GLYN BORDERS NAMED NEW CHAIR OF THE KNOWLEDGE ALLIANCE, A MAJOR U.S. EDUCATION POLICY GROUP

Washington, D.C., December 2, 2009 —Denise Glyn Borders, senior vice president and director of the AED U.S. Education and Workforce Development Group, was tapped by the Board of Directors of the Knowledge Alliance to serve as the chair of the association’s board for 2010.

Knowledge AllianceBorders oversees more than 100 programs that use evidence-based approaches to improving education across the United States, and she is dedicated to bridging the gap between research and practice. The group she directs works in seven core content and service areas: early childhood‚ disabilities‚ middle grades‚ high school and youth engagement‚ college access and postsecondary success‚ workforce development‚ and research and evaluation.

“It is vitally important that the improvements we make in the classroom are based on solid evidence,” said Borders. “Just as importantly, we must keep policymakers well-informed about the latest developments in education research.”

Educational assessment, research, evaluation, and accountability have been the focus of Borders’ career for more than twenty years. Before joining AED, Borders was the president and chief operating officer of the McKenzie Group, a Washington-based consulting firm that worked closely with urban school districts. She was also the associate director of the Department of Defense Education Activity, and an assistant superintendent of the Baltimore City Public Schools.

"Denise has her hand on the pulse of education research in the U.S.,” said AED President and CEO Stephen F. Moseley. “I am confident that she will skillfully lead the Knowledge Alliance over the next year."

“2010 will be a pivotal year for advancing knowledge and innovation in education reform in Washington, D.C. and throughout the country,” said Jim Kohlmoos, the president and CEO of the Knowledge Alliance. “With Denise at the helm, the Knowledge Alliance is ready to help lead the way to a new era of change and transformation.”
