AED helped coordinate and develop the 2005 National HIV Prevention Conference (NHPC) held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 12-15, 2005. AED's Center on AIDS and Community Health provided technical assistance and support to CDC staff in planning the conference. The primary purposes of NHPC are to share effective prevention approaches and research findings among governmental, community, and academic partners in HIV prevention; and to strengthen collaborations between program practitioners and researchers in areas including behavioral interventions, vaccine development, and monitoring the epidemic. The 2005 NHPC brought together researchers, community-based organizations (CBOs), governmental, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to exchange innovative approaches, share research findings, strengthen collaborations, and increase CBO capacity to implement HIV prevention interventions.
