The Djibouti Assistance to Education Project is a three-year effort to improve student learning in Djibouti. Its three objectives are to increase access to basic education, improve the quality of teaching and learning, and increase opportunities for girls' education. The first set of interventions have focused on improving the Ministry of Education's capacity to implement the government's ambitious reform program; the second set of interventions have focused on getting more communities involved in the management of local schools; and the third set of interventions have focused on increasing access to education through physical improvement to school infrastructure in selected communities. These interventions are all fully integrated. The project is working closely with Ministry counterparts to ensure that the reforms are carried out in targeted schools and to monitor their impact on student learning.
