Ghana BECAS, as an Associate Award ofthe Educational Quality Improvement Program 2 (EQUIP2) focuses on thedevelopment of a new comprehensive education assessment system thatincludes National Education Assessment (NEA), School EducationAssessment (SEA), and Continuous Assessment (CA). It is a three-year,$1 million project whose objectives are to: designand implement a comprehensive educational assessment system, establishrealistic expectations in the setting of examination standards, provideinformation in an accurate and timely fashion, encourage the use ofexamination results for program and school improvement, and establishcapacity in the Ghana Education Service (GES) to continue to manage thenew comprehensive educational assessment system.












Ghana BECAS focuses, in particular, on supporting the development of tests that relate to primary school levels one through six in the basic education system. The emphasis throughout test development will be on the educational relevance and appropriateness of the tests. Every effort is made to develop a comprehensive framework for the various tests that is based upon the essential understanding that underlies the curriculum.
