AED is a prime contractor on USAID’s People, Energy and Development (PED) IQC. The primary objective of this IQC is to facilitate more effective and efficient knowledge management in the energy sector and to establish cross-sectoral linkages between energy and other sectors (gender; health and education; small and medium enterprise development; natural resources and the environment; economic growth and trade; water and agriculture; and democracy, governance and conflict management).

Work under the PED IQC can include:

  • institutional strengthening;
  • energy policy reform;
  • environmental and related infrastructure;
  • promoting greater efficiency of energy production, distribution and use;
  • fostering the commercialization and use of renewable energy technologies and technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and
  • defining the role of stakeholders and promoting their participation.

AED is working on three projects under PED:

  • Energy Educational Alliance Support: AED is providing support to the USAID Office of Infrastructure and Engineering on an array of activities, including knowledge management, capacity development, program design and evaluation, and short term technical assistance to Missions and Regional Bureaus.
  • Energy Regulatory Training Development: AED is providing technical support to the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) in Hungary to develop a training program business plan and curriculum for regional regulatory commissioners and staff.
  • Angola Electricity Support Program: In this five-year program, AED is providing capacity-building and technical support to communities, the distribution company and municipalities to expand the delivery of electricity to communities in and around Luanda.
