Location: North AmericaUnited States

Duration: This project is no longer active.

The AED National Institute for Work and Learning (NIWL), in partnership with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), is studying career and technical education transition programs. In one of the first attempts to measure the quality of practices associated with such programs, AED hopes to link practices such as advanced academic course taking, dual credit, and career and academic counseling to student outcomes as in order to review the effectiveness of the programs. This project addresses the important policy question of what impact participation in CTE has on students' academic achievement, including transition to post-secondary education.  Study sites in two states have been identified; research protocols have been developed; and samples of treatment and comparison groups constructed.  Further into the project, data on academic achievement and transition will be collected. The data analysis will focus on the relative advantage of participation in CTE.
