The Diaspora Skills Transfer Program for Southern Sudan

The Diaspora Skills Transfer Program for Southern Sudan is the firstAED project that will use the skills of the Diaspora community—thosepeople originally from a region but are now living elsewhere—to improvethe health and education sectors of their home country. In this casethe project will focus on Southern Sudan.











Following more thantwo decades of civil war, the warring parties in Sudan, the largestcountry in Africa, signed a peace agreement. This allowed developmentwork to begin in earnest in that area. The goal of the project is toencourage Sudanese Diaspora to give back to their homeland.











It will support 150 volunteers over 18 months. The volunteers will beworking in schools, hospitals, and health and education governmentalagencies at the state and local levels. The project operates in all tenstates in Southern Sudan, and in two transitional zones.
